Glow plug LED dash indicator
« on: December 22, 2012, 04:24:34 pm »
The indicator LED seems to be eratic in operation.  The glow system is working but after startup within a few minutes of driving the glow indicator LED drifts on and off with varying intensity. Any suggestions?

If it's a mk2 your water separator is telling you it wants to be deleted.

Got the same problem. I just ignore it because I am lazy. Actually picked up a car once, the PO put a piece of electrical tape over it so you couldn't see it from the drivers seat! LMAO

Thanks for your answers guys. A quick read of the Bently didn't tell me this but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place. Yes it is an '87 so that means a Mk 2? I did have another glow plug relay which I swapped in. Also it spent a heated night in the shop with a fan blowing under the dash in case of a wet pc board. There has been no recurrance but that doesn't mean you aren't right about this situation.  Maybe it is time to make that separator disappear. The odd thing was when it was acting up stepping on the brake pedal would light up the glow light...like maybe there are some dirty grounds somewhere and why would't there be with the new road treatments on a 25 year old chassis!
