I might be able to help you out. Wrenching on a potentially dead motor mk2 golf tomorrow. If it doesn't go well the dash is yours.

Mine is far worse than that picture. Resembles the Grand Canyon.
I think the further south you go the worse they are.

BTW, be sure to get a GERMAN dash..
the american and mexican dashes are ever soo slightly different..
you will need some new brackets and trim pieces..

Hi
I assumed that all of the mk 2 jetta golfs in the US were German made. You are right I want it plug and play.

Not all. Wolfsburg were German for sure. Also, IIRC golfs and jettas don't mix well.

mine is a wolfy, but produced in america, with an american dash/interior..
ive had all 3 kinds of cars (german, american, and mexican) and all of them have slightly different dashes..
the vents and defrosters mount differently, and none of the sh*t is the same..

well i disagree.. 2 dashes...
1st is westy built 85-88 golfs... the easiest way to tell... the piece aroud speedo... westy the dash holds the 4way/defog vs that plastic.. this makes heater controld, fuse box mouting, center cosol, vents differet...
rest of them... plastic aroud speedo/radio also holds the 4way/defog... ce1-ce2 wirig, controls same, so on..
now in 88 the dash plastic, material got a little more rouded, and the trim switched up but its majority of dash pieces are "rest of them" in the way it fits... but some 88 are westy.. so be careful...
next blue/brown dashes were 85/86 type of thig... by 88 its black... unless you got a odd color combo.. say a 88 carot jetta with the brown recaros... only seen 1 set.. and that car was nice... and was purchesed new by its owner.. so some odd option..

Hi MP5
By westy you mean West German?
On my german made 1986 Jetta,
the heater control is bolted in from behind the
dash and the dash is actually clamped in between the vacuum control and the plastic trim.
The center console fits into a grommet in the dash Never had the dash out of the car so I can't speak to some of the other aspects.
