Seems some places show a shallow seal (12724), some show a deeper seal (026 103 085 d).
My FLAPS provided a shallow seal , but it seems like if driven more than flush, it could get cocked or sit too far back, particularly if used at the camshaft.

Fel-Pro and Reinz cylinder-head kits include the deeper seal for the camshaft.
The ones I pulled were the deeper type.
Is the shallow seal just the wrong one?

I've always thought the seals were all the same part.
That there's a difference is new to me.
I always bought the crank seal from autohaus and used it on all 3 parts. That thin seal maybe the ticket if you have a groove worn into your engine part and you could move where the seal rides for you.
My local auto parts store only seems to stock the shallow seal as well. It works fine. You just have to make sure you don't drive it in too far or get it crooked.

I have both types, but wanted to make sure.
The shallower one leaked on my IM shaft.
It looked ok, it was not in the lightly grooved section of the IM shaft, but had a steady drip that ran down the edge of the crank-seal carrier and onto the edge of the oil pan.
Replacing it with the deeper version seems to have resolved the issue.

All 3 shafts use the same seal as far as i knew.
if you peruse ancient bently books,there used to be 2 seals early on for the int shaft.
one for diesel,one for gas.due to rotation they only had seals with the little diversion lips facing one way or the other,whichever engine ya had.
well the tall seal shown has the little lips going both ways,so it can be used on a shaft that rotates either way.
unless you found some nos parts i havent seen an engine specific int shaft seal in prob 15+ years
