Hey sorry im new and have been told about this site and will be useful info but.I can't find anything yet but here goes.I am looking to swapping a 1.6td into my mk2 I have no idea what I need for the swap, and some easy upgrades on making it more "fun" and I am really sorry if you guys have answered this a million times, again im new to diesels and there for.would.much appreciate the info and advise. Thanks Patrick
For the swap, from what I know, it's gas tank, fuel sender unit that goes in the tank, motor (obviously), depending on your tranny then possibly could leave it, diesel starter(more torque), wiring harnes, and cluster. Not sure about the fuses and relays, hopefully someone else adds that in. I know I'm forgetting something...GL with the swap, diesels are fun and easy to play with to get what you want. Just remember, once you go clack, you never go back.
then drop in a TD motor. Easy. Possibly change your tranny unless you wanna put up with 3500 rpms doing 100k or 60mph

Worst case scenario, he's pushing 3100 with an AWY, and more likely in the 2600 range with an ACH or AGS. Even with my 4 speed I'm under 3500 at 100km/h. Diesel to diesel swaps are straight forward. Wiring is the same, and vw IDI diesels have no ECU. You will need the complete engine, rad & hoses (if you want the bigger rad), air-box, intake hose, and exhaust down-pipe. Everything else will carry over nicely.
If you want a pile of info/links re: VW diesels, Go here: http://vincewaldon.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogsection&id=4&Itemid=26 (Such things as upgrading GP wiring, Engineering documents, part #s, etc.)On my old 1.6TD, My Granddaughter had a weird problem: When winter cold, it would fire and immediately die, then when cranked again, it would spin like no compression. Guess what? It was a 'Hydraulic Lifter' engine, and when cold, the oil pressure would 'Spike', pumping the lifters and 'cracking' the valves. = No compression. Just thought I'd throw that in for fun!
