Mk. II replacement body panels?
« on: November 20, 2012, 01:01:40 pm »
Been kicked around before, I understand.
But, is anyone selling replacement body panels for Mk. II's yet?

I am so frustrated I did not take the time to cut so many of these bodies apart (those that were parted out and crushed in the past). But then, storage of these "potential jewels" tends to be a problem in urban living. Can't win......

klokkenhollmer sells many replacement parts. Its not that there is a lack of replacement parts, its the fact that by the time these cars need major rust repair it would be much quicker and economical to locate another shell.  Pristine mk2's can go upwards of $3000 but by lowering your standards in finding a shell (shell that needs paint job, slight rust or rear wheel arches) You can find these if your looking for about $700 and a bit of traveling. It will take a heck of alot less time to tackle a few minor body issues than a full body restoration. I ran into this problem with my golf , found a few shells on craigslist , never bought any, and lost motivation.

Watch the RockAuto ones,, some ship from $Europe$.
The local yards charge about $50/panel door, fender, etc, and there are plenty of  rust free ones to saw off.

You must remember those of us whom live in California, Arizona, Nevada are blessed to have junkyards full of rust-free cars from the 80's and 90's, the rest of the country not so much.

There honestly have not been any Mk. I or II cars in my local yards for many years. Me and my two friends own all of the VW's near here.
