new cyl head sources?????
« on: November 10, 2012, 04:16:07 pm »
I may need to get a rebuild/new cyl head for my 92 jetta eco diesel.
parts place has both new/rebuilt.

Anybody ever buy one of their new heads? Any comments pro/con on them?

They are far from me (I'm around Phila Pa area) so shipping is costly AND they charge core charges on NEW heads.
Makes it undesirable for me...

Anyone have any east coast reliable sources?

Oil leakage on front side of head - head probably warped too much to mill (sadly, oil leakage is the ONLY reason the gasket is bad)

so - any other sources besides parts place inc???

Thanks!!!

The fleet
92 eco diesel (my driver turned project)
94 suburban (mine)
69 Chevelle 327 w/hillborn - resting nicely
89 Jetta coupe (sons 16v ABA head swap w/turbo and megasquirt - not run yet)
2000 jetta (other sons)
98 jetta (daughters)
2001 jetta tdi (girlfriends)
03 subaru outback (girlfrie

I was taking apart a head today and noticed that there were a couple of studs that hold the VC on that were barely tight.  Like I could have undid them with my fingers if I had tried.  That might be the reason for an oil leak at the gasket or do you means Head Gasket  (HG)?  Might try warming it up and then undo and redo the head bolts again.  Never hurts.
