recently discovered that the harmonic balancer from the newer engines 2.0 aba for example bolts directly on to the older crankshafts engines that had no harmonic balancer same bolt pattern, also enabling use of a more powerful alternator

ABA harmonic balancer has the wrong offset for a diesel, only works on 8v gas.

1.8T/AAZ/TDI harmonic balancers fit the 1.6D just fine tho, correct offset..

theres a thread on vortex about milling 5mm off the ABA unit, and using a hubcentric spacer to keep everything lined up..

ive got a 1.8T balancer that im going to use on my diesel..

the ABA has a timing belt that is 5.5mm NARROWER than the diesel unit, therefor, the crank sprocket is ALSO 5.5mm narrower..

so, if you installed the ABA unit on a diesel, it would put it 5.5mm TOO FAR AWAY from the engine, so the serpentine belt would NEVER line up..

also, if you decide to run a serp setup on your diesel, you NEED a one way clutch for the alt. and a TDI crank sprocket is a good idea as well..

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.
