I need gearbox with cables for my project, please give me advice for strong gearbox with cables, but the clutch to be with cable too ... i am looking at 02A from tdi engines, but all i sow are with clutch pump ... is there any chance to convert gearbox with clutch pump to clutch cable? if i dont find my answer, i will try to fit clutch master, but i dont have enough space, and i will have to rework the firewall alot to do this ...

you need cable and actuator from a 5 speed euro van. Go with a gearbox with similar gears to an
A C N series tranmission inless you are cranking serious torque and hp the tdi trans will kinda suck.if its a 1.6

well if its an aaz then I think you'll be ok with tdi transmission. as far as I can tell al 02a transmissions are about the same as far as strength when they are stock. if you are adventerous you could split the case pull out the diff and install an arp bolt kit on it to ensure that the stock rivets wont be a problem.

02A has much bigger gears and bearings inside...
the bearings (the small ones, from engine braking) are what i wear out the most.. ive been thru 6-7 020 trannies over the years..
the way i drive, it tears the bearings out of the transmixers, not the ring gear rivets..
02A is the way to go if you want big power.. (3-4x stock torque)
020 trannies are fine as long as they dont hook up.. once you start running sticky tires, or drag slicks, and doing hard launches, they grenade left and right...
if you got a light mk1, and you dont have alot of extra power, then stock 020 is fine, but if you got a mk2 w/ big power, or a mk3 with any power increase, then an 02A is a great idea..

its fiat 126 rwd with aaz engine, but i will use drag slicks and maybe in future some NOS, i dont want to do it 2-3 times, i will do it once, i can find 02A gearbox, but now i sow i will have to find exactly from toledo or ibisa because the clutch with cable i want to stick with. Thanks to all for the pleasant info ... and i hope it helps someone else too ... also, whats the weak point of the 02A? gears are ok, what breaks in? i will use gt2260v from iveco dayli or some compound setup ... i am after at least 200 wheel horse power ... i will buy g60 flywheel, and 228mm clutch, so i want the gearbox to be strong ... i have 3 020 gearboxes, but i dont want to break gearbox, then to change all my setup again and to put 02A, so i will put 02A as beginning, and will sell my 3 020 gearboxes

No point to do it false when i can do it right from first time!

its easy, you put it behind your seat with the engine itself

Its fiat 126p ... the engine is behind your seat from factory, just cutting some rear seats, and install the bigger engine with gearbox

Very nice! Being that I think most of us on here don't know from experience what kind of car you are working with, in terms of weight and stuff.. Would you mind filling us in?
What kinda of engine and transmission were in it stock? and how did they do? With more variables we will be able to give a better idea of what should work out best for your specific application.
Also, WELCOME TO THE BOARD

i will now answer you, then all questions about the car will be answered in the thread in th idi section

The car was 2 cilinder air cooled engine 600cc 22-3hp, its about 600kg stock, and its rear engine polish fiat. you can search google for fiat 126p, its 2.90m long and 1.20m wide, we have class diesel in bulgaria in the drag championship, and i prepare this car for there. i cutted the rear seats to make place for the diesel engine, and now i will make the cage and the engine frame, after i clean the mess in the garage, i will start taking photos .. but for now its too dirty to take photos

That nutty Military guy we used to have on here (NintendoKD) wanted to take an MR2, and put a VW TD in it..
dont see why you couldnt use an 020 or 02A in the back of a car, and build yourself a set of axles to hook everything up...
