Did Canadian 81-84 Caddy come with tachs?

I want a tach in my Caddy? Where can I find a cluster with a tach for my 81 1.6? Did Canadian or Euro caddy come with a tach?
I pulled the cluster out of my 81 and the connector on the back is neither CE1 or CE2. What kind is it?

now westy had no official diesel tach... gasser yes... diesel no on paper... i have seen one though.. with invalid part number and it was nib... people mod the gasser tach to work..

MKI rabbit wiring and cluster is westy based? air or water? So my best bet is to get a MKI gasser cluster and get its tach
to work in the caddy?

You can just swap in the tach, no need for the whole cluster. I think we used a tach out of a cabriolet, but I don't remember.

I've never seen a truly Canadian registered Caddy with a gas engine...they were all NA diesels. The gas-engined Caddys here are either transplants or US models brought into Canada. The diesels never came with a tach.

Nice! Can you find out more on what you did? Pics? The clock in my cluster is NG and would make the perfect spot for a tach. I can put an LED clock in the blank spot in the bottom middle if there is space behind there.

U can just swap the tach but that looks goofy because of the knob you set the clock with its best to just the whole cluster then u have a 120mph speedo. If u have an American built car get a gti cluster, use the diesel membrane on the gti cluster with converted tach or u can also just use the Dakota digital converter. If its a German car get a cabby tach, cabby racha are a bit harder to convert depending on which one you get, older is usually better

What is a 'cabby racha "?

cabby/jetta different then caddy.... aka westy vs german... so no per say not a swap... you need 81-84 westy bunny tach cluster for direct fit...
now me....
i have installed a mk2 td tach cluster to a westy dash before.. issue no brake/seat belt warning lights... ce1 drivers door closest plug has issues with steering column mounts... but looks much nicer then the westy cluster...
for my mk1 jetta/cabby i have modded mk2 tachs to fit the mk1 cluster, did some pcb soldering to make it work... and my last one i built 12-13 years ago using the rair 80-81 only pre shift light pcb/backings even figured out how to add a boost and tach where clock is...
so enough creativity and you can do it all... but westy 81-84 usa built bunny not same as german... wiring, fit so on unique..

Chris I remember seeing pictures of that cluster on vortex. I've converted probably 10 half German ones and half westy, the westy ones are easier because the diesel and tach ones are very similar the German ones are harder because they made so many different versions and the diesel vs gas ones are more different. Certain ones are as easy as a westy and others are a total *** of patching in wires

Below is pic of my 81 caddy cluster. Note the female connector, instead of male connector on CE1 and CE2. Will 81-84 westy bunny cluster have the same female connector?

Yes the rabbit tach cluster is almost identical from behind, you'll actually want to swap the center section and membrane from ur current cluster over to the tach cluster to retain the glow plug light

OK, so the confusion (for me) was that I thought westy = Westphalia when it should= Westmoreland. Now it makes more sense.

I was given this cluster and was told it's from a GTI and that it would fit into my Caddy. Can anyone verify that it is from a GTI and if so what year? The connector on the back is neither CE1 or CE2 nor Westy

That's a mkii gti cluster it could work but ull need a mkii diesel cluster and the plug for it so u can splice in the correct connector
