just got tipped-off today to a factory option under-hood light for our cars. was an option from 1980 caddies only apparently.

they are about $20 a piece from the dealer and as of this moment there are 36 left in wisconsin. will likely be NLA after that.

part number is: 175 947 317

order it now if you want it, the vhortex vultures will snap these up in a couple weeks/months probably.

factory holes for it:
(check your hood, i bet you have the holes unless its an early smoothy hood)

BlackTie: Does the Mk2 have similar holes?

Or, could said holes be added easily?

I'd like an underhood light.

mkII might have had a similar factory option, you might want to look into it.

otherwise, i'm sure you could just use some self-tapping screws to mount the mkI light if the holes aren't already there.  :)

Very interesting!

I've seen one of these lights in person, but wasn't sure if it was OEM or not.  The fact the holes are already in the hood is a pretty clear tip off.

what's the big deal, i don't understand, it'd be so easy to put any light under your hood., i guess everyone is too lazy to drill holes these days.

yeah i dont get why anyone would want some junky little brake light under the hood. if you want a hood light, grab put a 12v halogen with a mercury switch under there!

Yeah, you could always add something else.  But some people want to keep it stock.

i only put OE parts on my cars.
with the bolt holes there, the install creates no new holes in the body.
mercury switches turn on on heavy acceleration and if you park on a hill they kill your battery.

ps- you guys seem to be getting worked up. this isn't an opinion thread guys, its to pass on information.  8)

Hadn't seen this thread until it was brought back to life yesterday. I went to the dealer today with the intent in picking up a couple of these and there are no more in the country except for those few dealer who still have one kicking around the back room.
