Mk2 to mk1 diesel swap
« on: October 05, 2012, 12:45:09 pm »
So I am confronted with only a few options to get get behind a diesel again. One idea is to swap my diesel engine from my rusted out mk2 into the mk1 cabriolet I have. As it sits it has an auto tranny, power steering, working airconditioning, yada yada yada. The MK2 had manual steering and no airconditioning and obviously a 5 speed.  Now the question is... What would I have to aquire/ do to make the diesel engine fit besides engine mounts? I would like to keep the power steering and A/C  if possible in the cabriolet.

What about the shifter linkage and pedal assembly?

You'd need the full on mk1 standard setup. Shifter, linkages, the piece on the steering rack..

Clutch pedal i think is also mk1 specific, but I am not certain.

Darn I was afraid of that. I think a swap to an mk3 would be easier at this point....

you can pull a mk2 engine, change 1 (or 2) engine mounts depending on year, and bolt it right in a mk3..

mk2 and mk3 are WAY closer than mk2 and mk1..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.
