I need to replace my master cylinder.
I am running disc brakes (and the entire rear axle) off a 1991 Jetta GLI in my 1985 Golf. I intend to stick with the stock 4 way setup and "shotgun shell" proportioning valves.
I know there is some difference between the brake setup between these years, but I'm not sure what it is.
Should I use a master cylinder for the 1991+ cars (without ABS)? They are about the same price as the earlier MK2 cylinders, and I can't figure out what the difference is.
Thanks.
they are the same.. I will look again tonight... but I believe they are the same master cylinders. as they are MK2's.
There is a different part number for 91+ which is the same for the mk3 (without ABS).
crap forgot.. same as the corrado.. but I believe they will work.
ok I went and checked.. from what I saw at the shop... the mastercylinders should be interchangeable.. as long as they where both disc. the bore of the mastercylinder has the same dimensions
that being I checked a G-60 corrado and a GTI. both being 90 models...
hope this helps..

mk3 uses a 22mm master, and its a bolt on upgrade..
you cant use an ABS m/c even if you were DETERMINED to make it work.. they are just far too different..
Yup put a 98 TDI master on my 90 German when it died.. Didnt know if it would work at the time but it did.
what size mc is a mk2?
idk, 19-21mm i believe, depending on brake combo..
