As stated ACN 020 transaxle from an 8V gasser, works great coupled to a 1.6TD, ask ROR2.0.....
133,000 miles $250 picked up

ok, 130 rpm..
i still dont think 130rpm is worth spending money on, and then splitting the case..
if you had a .91 5th gear or something like that, then this would be great..
its really not necessary to upgrade, bing that .75 is the second tallest 5th gear..
if you are dropping 5-600 revs, like you would be going from a .91 to a .71, then its way worth it..
ive never felt like it was worth it to upgrade for barely a change in engine tone tho...

I get what you are saying I guess I just wanted to do it to have the experience of changing a fifth gear and still getting a negligible benefit is a plus...

find a junk 020 (not hard, they always blow up) and split the case and perform all different kinds of surgery!
then you dont have to worry about messing up the trans in your daily driver.. doesnt really matter if you mess up your "learning" trans..
thats what i did atleast.. ive always taken apart the junk trans first, when i do something trans related that ive never done before..
split the case?

I have changed 5th gears numerous times with the transaxle in the car....pretty easy as a matter of fact. Same deal with 02A for the most part.

 you just gotta remove the six 5th gear housing bolts to get to it. Remove the 27mm selector plug detent bolt shift it into 2 gears a brake loose the 12mm xzn triple square bolt on big gear remove circle clip on the other pop off the adjuster tab loosen the barrel nut adjuster deal and use a puller on the gear took me 30 minutes round trip on the bench trans out of car already while i was doing a swap.

well, i meant that figuratively speaking..
5th gear doesnt need a case split..
just the end case split from the main case..
