Okay, so I finally got the beast running good.
Here is what I'm up against:
1. AAZ engine w/ 02A tranny from the gasser I swapped out. When I hit 75-90km/h in fifth gear the steering wheel shakes. I'm using the same tires, same CVs, same tranny, only difference is the engine. Car only sat for two weeks.
Any ideas?
2. Car was a b**** to start this morning.. I used the gasser starter with the 02A tranny, cause the 020 diesel starter wasn't compatible. So, do you guys think the starter could not have enough juice to turn this engine over fast enough to start? Or is it more likely the glow plugs are just shot.. luckily the PO put wires with eye's in place of the busbar for easier removal.
All info greatly appriciated.. thanks.
Does it do it at those speeds in 4th? I would guess something out of balance not engine though.
Gasser starter won't last and doesn't crank fast enough. Get a diesel starter. That may not be why it was hard to start, tho. Check glow plugs for power and make sure they all work. Make sure air isn't getting into the fuel.
Yeah, know all about that.
I plugged in the block heater last night and it fired right up this morning. I don't have the glow plugs wired to a switch yet.. just trying to hot wire them to the batt, but I don't think they're functioning properly.. just going to replace them and starter.

you need a properly functioning starter, battery, AND glow plugs.. or else your engine will ALWAYS be a *** to start..
gasser starters dont have enough poop to fire a diesel either..
Well, it definately starts a lot easier after being glowed.. so I think the starter is the weakest link right now.
For 02a tranny, 1z or AHU tdi starters fit?

Well.. I've done some extensive testing on the wobble. Only thing I changed is removing hubcaps. Seems to get worse with heat... wheel shakes from anywhere between 70-100km/h.. When braking through those speeds I can steering wheel shake too.. could jacking up the car have killed a worn tie rod or ball joint?
also, my car shakes when letting out the clutch.. could this be from improperly torqued PP bolts? I had to do them by hand cause my torque rachet was at work.

I can't quite understand you. I would say your tires are out of balance.
Through the speed 70-100km/hr accelerating, decelerating, and maintaining speed the wheel shakes. Sorry, it was early when I wrote that.
I checked for missing weights and the tires weren't out of balance before the swap.. I did use all the gasser motor mounts, could those cause me any trouble?
Thanks.
