this is my first diesel and i recently resealed the engine. i filled her full of oil and ran it for a day then i had to move some stuff so i drained the oil.. it was black as night.. pretty common for diesels?
my engine does throw lots of black smoke when i get on the throttle... i thing i have the pump timed a little too fast.
Yes that's normal. As soon as the old oiol works it's way out of the gallies and it runs for a day there's enough soot to turn it black by then. Probably a little accelerated by all that smoke you put out under acceleration. Checking pump timing wouldn't hurt, as well as fiddling with the fuel screw if that doesn't cut it back to an ammount you're comfortable with.
What is VW/oem acceptable amount of smoke when these engines were new? Only particulate enough so you don't notice it? My na is clear even floored it doesn't put out any I can easily see. My turbo puts out some until the turbo is on boost and that seems to clear it up. I notice people behind me slow(from a red light) until the turbo clears it up if I step on it hard. What is acceptable by the average Joe driver? Just curious..
cool thanks!! ill put a post about injector pump timing with a video of whats going on with mine
