The funny part is, VW DID come out with a 4x4.

Just not in North America :P

It still needs his "fire-breathing 1.9TD", though.

After all, it's merely a Samurai with a Rabbit body and a few Toyota parts, as I understand.

some years ago, I built a rabbit that sat on LT215/75R15 all terrain tires. It sat so tall you could almost crawl right underneath it without bumping your head. Looked awesome, it was all rabbit suspension with lenthened parts, and lowered suspension pickup points. it was powered by a not so firebreathing 1.5L and almost worked. Even with the most flexible CV's I could find, they'd self destruct at full suspension droop. I had an idea for using two outer CV's on a two piece driveshaft setup: male and female splined halves that would take up the dimensional changes as the suspension extended and compressed.
But, I moved shops, and priorities changed, and it was never finished. Looked amazing, and probably would have ended up true 4x4 via a second rattlebox in the rear driving the rear wheels.
gearing wouldn't have been awesome, but there likely wouldn't have been a snowstorm out there that'd stop it. unless the temperature was below -20 anyway... hehehe
I repair, maintain and modify VW's and BMW's.
Good work done at affordable rates. Welding and fabricating, too.

Saw an article a LOT of years ago (Road and track maybe?)about  a prototype mk 1 jetta set up with two engines, gassers.They were toying with building 200 so they could rally with it in the production classes. Probably be lots of fun. Wasn't jacked up though. Sleeper material!

BTW, what's with the log in thing? I hvaen't been able to get in for weeks, then I check the board today and I'm logged in again! WEIRD!

That'd be the Twin-Jet.

Frankly, the Bimotor Scirocco, with two tachometers and a digital speedo seems much more interesting to me.

Of course, twin firebreathing 1.6 or 1.9TDs are REQUIRED.

my grade 10 science book had a little blurb in it about acceleration. they mentioned the fasted 0-60 time (for  the mid 80's by a 'production' car was that twin engine scirocco, 4.9 seconds, if I remember right.
