Random AAZ pump wires :s
« on: September 11, 2012, 03:46:14 pm »
Theres a couple of wires that ive got no idea what they are for :s

My old pump had no wires at all and the engine ran great, but this newpump doesnt seem right somehow.

Theres a sensor of some description on the bottom of the pump, and a pair coming from the center of the injector lines.

2 questions really, what are they? And could they be a possible cause for the random running?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

You have the half-breed AAZ/TDI pump. It's my opinion that those wires not being hooked up would cause running issues, since they control the timing but I seem to recall reading about others on this forum who don't have them hooked up and everything is running fine.

Some AAZ pumps had bad camplates. Most of them have died already though so it's not a common issue. What happens is the camplate and rollers wear out, fill the advance piston with metal shavings which then either totally screws up the bore, or seizes the advance piston. If you pop of the advance piston cover you'll be able to tell quite easily if you have this issue. It's not common though, so don't start there.

Thanks for the info Burn, ill go have a check over :)

Ill post some pics if the wiring just to make sure i explained it right.

Is it possible to remove these sensors and replace them with the covers and such off my old pump, or is there too much difference on the internals?

The pump body is drilled differently unfortunately.

I'd hope to hear from some of them before you go spending money.

Did you check the crank gear?
