Which injection pipes for a franken 1.6/1.9 engine?
« on: September 09, 2012, 01:08:03 pm »
So I have and AAZ head and AAZ injectors on my 1.6 TD block.

The AAZ injectros have a noticeably longer body than 1.6 injectors, so the stock
injection pipes don't fit very well.

What injection pipes have you used with 1.9 injectors and a 1.6 block?

At least T2 1.6 TD and T4 1.9 TD pipe sets are available for me.
I don't think AAZ pipes will work either as the pump sits at a different angle on the block.

There aren't any lines that will fit that combination without bending them because the taller injectors were never used with the shorter block.  If you use 1.6 injectors you could use 1.6 lines.  1.9 lines won't fit because the 1.9 block is taller.

Well, which lines would require the least amount of bending?

Isn't the 1.9 pump body also a bit longer than the 1.6?

Isn't the 1.9 pump body also a bit longer than the 1.6?

The 1.9 has an extended nose, but that doesn't come into play because it is on the other end of the injection pump bracket.

I'm using the 1.6 TD lines on 1.9 injectors with the long delivery valves.

Only slight bending was needed to make them work and can still be used on 1.6 injectors.

I have an Iveco 2.5 TD pump which is a LOT longer than a 1.6 pump :)

I guess I'll have to do some bending no matter what, I just hope that won't affect flow rates of the individual pipes...
Of course I could get a set of second hand pipes first and then use them as a template. Every part on this engine needs
to be new you know  ;)

Probably ones from a Mercedes 300 series 3.0 L 5-cylinder.

Have you tried them? This is an interesting idea. I wonder if the pipes have the same diameter.
Even very small diameter differences can cause surprising effects...

the PUMP is in the same spot as the 1.6, is it not?

Mercedes uses inline pumps, it would be a miracle if those lines would work on a VW 1.6/1.9 setup.
