rebuild a diaphram type vacuum pump
« on: September 02, 2012, 08:21:23 am »
I just tore apart the diaphram vac pump on a newly acquired 81 caddy with poor braking (no assist). Sure enough diaphram is torn. Who and where should I buy a rebuild kit from so I don't end up with a junk diaphram that will need replacement again in a year?

The slot drive in the vac pump is nice and square, not worn at all and I think this pump is not worn and worthy of rebuilding. Is the slot in the pump the part that wears or is it the drive end in the engine (oil pump?.)

Records indicate PO changed oil at 3k intervals. The engine starts without letting the glow plugs glow on a cold engine, just turn the key and it starts within 1/2 sec with a little white smoke and that clears within a few seconds.
