bent pump brackets are NOT impossible.. its quite common actually..

might just need the bracket ADJUSTED even..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

I will try to lift the bottom of the pump bracket up a bit tomorrow. hopefully it aligns the belt a bit better.
This is the last thing to do before turbo goes back on and the car finally starts up after a almost a year of collecting dust.  I actually miss driving this thing. and the turbo.   ;)

Reread fatmobile's post.  It is spot on.  I don't know what you mean by lifting the bottom of the bracket.  You need to lift the end of the bracket that is behind the metal lines or lower the sprocket end.  Basically if looking straight at the pump from the front of the car, you need to rotate it counter-clockwise so that the metal lines are higher relative to the sprocket.
