WTB 200mm Rear Drum Brakes - or larger - for 82 Caddy

Guys,

I'm in the process of rebuilding the brakes on my recently acquired Caddy, and it appears a previous owner may have put the smaller (axle or ?) 200mm brakes on this truck. Everything I've read, including the parts houses, list a 200mm rear brake assy for the truck, so correct me if I'm wrong. Plus, if the 200+ stuff is out there, I'd rather have the additional capacity.

It also appears the stub axles are bent, so if you've got everthing from the stub axles out, ping me with details and prices, and let me know what you have. My zip is 27613 and I'm located in Raleigh, NC

UPDATE: Actually, guys, I think I was measuring them wrong. It appears they are measured from the outside of the hub, and that gives me the 211mm spec. As you can tell, I don't know much about these things...

If you're going as far as to replace the stub axles, why don't you just run discs?

so you got it with no rear brakes on it?? i mean hell if the stub is bent.. no way it could have rolled..

trucks stock are 200mm... sadly later 200mm drums. like 90+ jetta use do not fit the early back plates.. gotta have later back plates to fit the later drums...

only 190mm 200mm and what b3 (very few) passats used in ca/mooch (aka cheap option cars) had them..

your best sticking to the 200mm 90-99.5 rear drums.. rear disks are ok if you plan to use them... but normally under normal braking.. the rear disks do not get used hard enough to clean up the rust they make.. the rear rotors rot away before the pads get close to worn out..

On discs, I'd consider it, but, right now, I don't want to have to lose the stock wheels and tires (they're new).

After checking this stuff out, it turns out my truck has the 180mm ID (measured inside at shoe contact surface) rear brakes on it, same as a Rabbit passenger car. Does anyone know if this is normal ? I'm thinking a previous owner may have replaced everything from the stub out, and had access to the Rabbit (non-truck) parts.

If I could get my hands on the backing plates, I could just purchase the other parts new. Anybody got some good truck backing plates ?

This thing actually rolled just fine, and the stubs are bent, at least, 30 degrees - unless someone tells me they come from the factory with a bend in them, I'm assuming they're supposed to be straight.

How I drive my car would probably make you cry. I went through a set of "lifetime" pads in less than a year.

As far as fitment, it depends on what wheels you have. IIRC, the GTIs came with 14" wheels.

13" rear wheels fit rear disks... its the 10" fronts that require 14" or 11" require 15" up front...
