Fan not working--Suggestions on where to start?
« on: August 14, 2012, 06:55:08 pm »
My fan is not coming on. I think it started before I replaced the engine. Any suggestions on how to diagnose it, or where to start looking?

Easiest would be to check the wiring/connectors first.

my 1st step.... hook up battery..

2nd unplug thermo switch on rad.. cross 2 wires with homemade jumper.. no run.. keep jumper in... this to be rehooked last.. y.. you will see..

3rd check fuse... if blown replace... fan on?? jumper will turn fan on... so this way as you check each part.. it will tell when fixed..

relay also on needs checked... but my 1st 3 steps above

Wouldn't be surprised if it was the thermo switch. We put in a new one 2 years before our rebuild. All worked great. Put the engine all back in, switch was dead. We tried everything but that stupid switch because we thought there was no way it could be dead  >:(

Well, ALL the above is good advice.
But, as some other obvious problems have arisen in the last couple days......are you sure the engine is warm enough to activate the fan cycle? Are BOTH radiator hoses getting good and hot?

Do you have a formerly consistent temp guage in this car?

Of course, I have the a/c model, so the wiring is 10x more complicated. Yes the temp gauge has always worked well, and the engine is warm enough to kick the fan on.
