I hope you notice the lack of rust, this thing is a beauty! German built '88 with 1.6TD 5spd
Blue paint will buff out, so will the rest of this GEM. Got a full Bilstein HD suspension for it, when it gets here
$500
semi-running. Enough to limp 3 hours? Heck yes. This is my favourite part of VW ownership. That first sketchy drive home
.
It is a steal, guess what is wrong with it? Fuel pump is leaking at the the distributor head so it cannot produce proper internal pressures. What do I specialize in? awwyeahh.
Its got a sunroof, power steering, power windows.. and may even have A/C oh god I hope so
lol. My 84 is brutal where I live, I can't make enough heat in the winter, and no air for the summer.. BRUTAL. Got an M-TDI swap already lined up for it too! LMAO If that falls through, at least an AAZ. I can find those for like $200 running.

This picture was years back, and its got a lot more rust now.. with more issues than I care to tackle LOL! Plus its a 3spd Gas!

My Lady says Take a shower before you come upstairs you smell like a batch of overcooked chicken wings. Or French Fries.
Need to find the right place to vent it to the outside and be better filling it up i guess.

I have been in constant touch with the owner, and he tried all day to get it to run properly. The main shaft leak has gotten worse since he parked it however long ago. A good and bad thing. May decrease the sale price??
But now I gotta fix it on the spot before I drive it home lol!!
A pump swap on a 1.6 is like a 20 minute (30 tops) job for me. So I am taking all the tools, another known good pump and a valve cover gasket with me.

Well that is going to really make the sale interesting. But like they say it isn't necessarily the problem with the car as much as it is the buyer knowing the solution. Hope you can get the lower price but then use the savings to rent a dolly, take it down the street, swap the pump and drive away from the PO. They don't need to know right away that you fixed it and are driving their "problem car" with no problems. Give em a week and let them know all is well but you had to struggle with it.
I read these starts but won't run thing all the time and I want to go over and look at the car and twist some wrenches on it so they don't have to take that 200 dollar loss.
let us know. DAS

Pump, sprocket and key for key way.
Belt, tensioner, valve cover gasket, injector lines.
Timing tools, 17mm wrench, 13mm socket with extension on 1/4 drive.
Clean out bolt, new fuel lines and hose clamps.
Jug of water and hand cleaner so I don't dirty his sink even.. or even have to ask. lol
Jack and 4 good tires.
Plates, proof of insurance, and registration.
I've got it all covered, ain't my first time picking up a non-runner to drive home
haha
Also Dale, He's the second owner.. Parents before him. He's happy to have it go to someone who will care for it and get it going again. He held it for a week for me, despite other offers and even spent all yesterday fiddling with it for me.. fluids topped, and tires filled. I picture a nicer older gentleman (maybe like yourself
), who I won't even ask for a lower price from just because he has been the most pleasant seller I've ever dealt with
.

Ya we be mellow old men with toys that keep us out of the bars. Neighbors have been complaining that they haven't seen the hood up on the car in a couple of weeks. Did I finally get it running right? Back to trying to get the home improvement stuff done as company is coming and they need a place to sleep.
Although the seats in the car lay back pretty good now that I think of it.
Hope you get a good sale. But my guess is if his folks bought the car he has way less gray in his beard than I. If any at all.

Nice tree tent
Going to get it Sunday morning
Only a three hour drive lol. I think she'll make it! If I had a hitch on my 84, I'd tow it home.

woohoo, 4 hour drive there, fix car, get it running, 4 hour drive home. 9 hours total trip. Not bad at all. During the drive home, tach is a little off. It has the 4S code 5spd, which puts you at 2700rpm with the tires on it at 100km/h. I was hoping I wouldn't luck out with a crappy ratio, got lucky. Used less than 1/4 tank for about 245km. Theoretically that would yield ~1000km off of 60L.
She's pretty clean, been undercoated all of its life. Receipts to prove it, and timely oil changes. She was loved. Beside the support vehicle and my daily on the way home, had to stop for RoadMcDicks. Just gotta on road trips lol.
She made the trek without too much issue. There was a few times coming up to a stop light depressing the clutch would cause a stall, and the car is so quiet and doesn't rattle I couldn't tell! haha. embarrassing that is. I started off with an electric pump to see if it would run and where it was for sure leaking. I had to replace the pump lid (not the distributor head seal) as a result, as it was leaking from the throttle shaft, bushing is right out of it. So we drove it back with a mildly accelerating 1.6TD bottom and 1.6 NA lid pump. Had the LDA line blocked,
but it would only blow smoke some of the time.
Something is up. At home to rest after a long day. Looks like rust under the washer bottle, its just tree crap. Only rust is the back door on the passenger side.
