I'm not one to trust Chinese snails either, but from what I hear it's mostly concerns with the wheel assemblies and their general lack of proper balancing.  MOSTLY.  I've still heard of cracking CRH's, badly cast turbine housings, restrictive casting flash, inoperative waste gate actuators . . . umm sorry, not trying to scare you.  :-[  I do hope you've scored a diamond in the rough, because a Disco Potato TD was a topic on my mind as well.  Too bad the good ones cost 1,200 dollars.  Ah, well, good luck with it being funner!

im with you guys on the chines stuff for long term. but for the short term experimenting, and abuse ive been doing they have worked wonderfully ;D.
on the inducer exducer measurements, thats what I have always looked at with borg  warner and larger garretts. Im not even sure what a trim is ??? ? any who the "disco potato" spools every bit as fast as the stock t3 did. it climbs quickly to 8 psi were the wastegate is supused to be set. so tomorrow when it is cooled off ill put a few turns on the actuator and see what kind of boost this will make

On paper the compressor isn't good for a td but in practice who knows for anything bigger than stock turbos a modded pump is reall necessary
01 Jetta TDI 100% stock daily
81 Rabbit:TDI-M ported head, Frank06 cam, PD intake, hybrid T3 turbo, Renault intercooler, Syl20 11mm pump, light weight fw, and yellow California Clutch clutch kit

ya well see how the compressor works when boost is turned up. and yes I have increased the fueling on the pump   ;) I have been playing with diesels for a few years now, but just recently started with the little vdubs.
