Ok so check this out duders.
My bro's car has this odd full-on stutter. Completely intermittent and I don't know what could be causing it.
Happens when you are on the throttle, at any spot of the throttle. Here is the catch though, we attributed it to a dieing injection pump and the engine was tired as well so we swapped out the 1.6TD for a 1.9AAZ with a built up Frankenshteeen pump. Still does it.

Different everything. Wtf eh?
Also, holy effin cracker berries! Does the AAZ ever haul some serious butt in a mk1

. k03 turbo, straight downpipe exhaust and the pump turned
ALL the way up. MOTHER OF GOD. Too bad I did not video the 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear brake stand
rotten lines in the fuel tank is my guess
12v to the fuel seliniod would be a first guess. 2nd maybe fuel lines, but that one should get worse not the same anywhere in the pedal.
Alright but they go in the bottom middle right side, and go to a submerged pickup in the middle of the tank yes? From what I recall from looking in my own mk1 tank anyway.
Even if they were rotten that should only present itself on say an empty or near it tank. We went out and put 30L in it to make sure that wasn't the problem. Still did it.
Thanks for the reply Tyler.
Pretty sure the 12v connection is good and solid. but I will give it a once over.
The connection isn't the issue most times. Remember Maxfax had one that looked ok, but was broken inside. He replaced it from the loom to the pump and his issues were solved. If not that I would look into the other points associated with the 12v. Maybe the key switch that has been known to cause problems or the X relay, maybe another relay. But a simple jumper from the battery to the pump would be an easy rule out for the feed wire to fuel.
What the Man said about the x-circuit or ignition switch especially if it is an early MK1 with the ceramic fuses and pigtail pluggins
Ah well i will see if it will still do it with a 12v straight to it.
12v from the battery solved it.. So i guess being easiest I will replace the x-relay first, then the ignition switch and if all else fails.. It will get a switch for the pump and push button start
Why not just a new 12v wire from the harness? the man 53 FTW(L)

BTW LOL

HAHA, isn't the harness the problem?? Plus, bro likes the idea of flip switch for ignition and push button start
I would take a shot at following it back to the main clump and splicing it in there.
