I apparently ordered one for an AHU and they are obviously not the same.
Near as I can tell the AAZ is the same as the 1Z, like this one..

AHU and 1Z are the same AFAIK. Are you sure you didn't order one for the ALH?

Damned if I know, I think IMC's catalog screwed me up, or it was really late. It has the flat side and the other long side of the gasket is wavy, not straight. It's a TDI something I'm sure.

The one you linked is for a standard 8v IDI. My 1z is as you described. The valve cover is held on by 3 nuts.

ALSO, the 1Z and AHU valve cover is not straight at the front.
This is a the AHU gasket;
AAZ gasket;
Normal 1.6 IDI gasket;

VW in their infinate wisdom doesn't sell a valve cover only gasket for the ALH. You have to spend over 120.00 for the new valve cover with a gasket. I hope he didn't do that. -

No, got just a gasket with some gromets (which do look like my AAZ's). Looks like an AHU gasket.
I'm pretty sure this one I linked is an AAZ part.

Even though it lists 1Z and AHU.

I see that the original one is sort of made into the valve cover, the replacement seems to be thicker to fill the channel in the valve cover, I assume you dig and scrape the original one out and replace it with this one. -
