just picked up a tdi swap
« on: June 12, 2012, 05:04:38 pm »
hello, i just picked up a tdi swap with a stage 3 ecu i was told. Now my question is, what should i do first to this engine? my car is a 1.9TD with ACT clutch. blah blah blah, but im looking for more fuel milage/power. I was thinking of running my stock 020 tranny with the ACT untill i get the hydro setup complete. i also plan on "rebuildin the outside of the engine. what are some main maintanice things i should take care of? also what would be a good/cheap upgrade for turbo, intake, injectors?

I have many more questions, but ill start there :P

aslo if anyone has a tdi Drive by wire they would sell, LMK! :)

cheers guys!

oh boy. lol I hope you did a lot of reading before diving in to this head first.. Which TDI is it? There is more than one ;).

This is an awesome the swap you are undertaking, at-least you don't have to worry about motor mounts.

Its a mk3 AHU TDi, and I'm getting a stage 3 mahone chipped ecu. I need .216 or .205 injectors. Also I mainly need the drive by wire behind the gas pedal.

Didn't know the did chips for the AHU, do not buy one from an ALH or other engine, it will not work.
As for the DBW you just need the throttle position sensor right? and possibly the wiring?
I've got everything here in my donor car but won't be using it as i'm going for a mechanical pump. seems i'm a bit far away though!

There's really no cheap turbo options unless you have a welder and can build-up a compound set-up using junkyard turbos. New vnt's that will increase your performance are generally ~$1500. Plus you will require a re-tune afterwards. Unless you build your own mtdi pump.

lol.. my VNT20, with manifold was ALOT cheaper than that..

only time a VNT is that expensive, is when you buy new..

good point.. it would have gotten REAL EXPENSIVE if i would have had someone build my intake manifold, and have someone modify the turbo header to make it fit as well..

ive got a good 20-30 hours just in making the stuff fit the car!
