not building boost.

Ok so i finially get the car out to the road after a long time of building it up. So i hit the road and did not get any boost through the engine, No power what so ever, my N/A had more power. I do have a boost gauge, and it showed no boost either. I did feel it nor did i see it, but the turbo was spooling just fine, just no "witch caft"(as ROR would say.) please let me know what you think?

Any other things we should know? Look for the obvious fuel/air restrictions, timing, and then maybe look at the intake...one guy had a shop towel in his and had a similar result.

Was there smoke?
Do you have enough fueling going into the engine to spool it up?
Is your waste-gate stuck open?
Leak in the intake system?
How do you know the turbo was spooling fine? Just by the noise?
Just off the top of my head, check all intake connections, make sure the end caps haven't popped off the inter-cooler. If there's an adjustment on the waste-gate, back in out a bit. If your intake has a pop valve, make sure it's seated or plugged. Make sure the throttle pedal actually has full movement on the pump.
I'm sure I'll think of some more, but most of the time if you have no boost, there's a simple reason for it.

yeah the intercooler piping/intake piping was the first think i checked, everything is seemed right. I will check for a clog in the intake, i dont think thats what it is but possible.
I have fuel, and timing is on.
Yes i feel that its spooling fine because it sound like it sound be creating boost.
Its a 1.6td k24, is the waste-gate adjustable?

The wastegate can be messed with, but it could be stuck open. There is a socket head and a jam nut that you can loosen the nut and tighten the "set screw".
Just had another thought, some 1.6 TD had the overboost protector, it could be leaking or open possibly. I welded my intake shut where that was so I am no expert on that piece and its function/nonfunction.

i was actually think about that being a possiblity, pulled it off and seemed to not be holding preasure right.
I double checked everything and it seems to be right. I did adjust the wastegate. Hopefully that works. I was going to weld the BOV hole shut but, i lack a welder, and i've heard of people just blocking it off, I know that Giles makes a BOV delete piece, but i would like to try another way of blocking it up, What have other people done?
I do know people take the top screw off and throw another longer screw in, dont really want to go that way

Soon as I saw this thread I knew it was a kkk turbo they have ***ty sticky waste gates usually they get stuck shut tho, maybe by blow compressed air into the waste gate can not too much pressure tho, and tapping on the turbo and waste gate with a hammer u can free it and also spay penetrating lube. If that doesn't work you'll have to pull the turbo off and remove the waste gate and clean it up and get it working. Also u might be able to tight the set screw in as far as it will go this should close the valve then back it off again. The set screw adjusts how far the valve can open. So when u tighten it u will push it closed

So set screw in=closed waste-gate and out= open? OK thank you for that information, Would really suck having to take the turbo off, did that once. Never wanted to do it again.

what about a MBC, i've got one that i can hook up.. If i close it off for more boost then the MBC will be doing the job of the wategate. Correct?

my radiator cap is a 21psi cap, so I would think that plug could handle a little more, as well as, i have personally put 25 psi on one for a radiator leak test, this was also on a smooth bore.

U should use mbc cause ull get faster spool up with, but not until Ivey the waste gate freed up and moving. U should ur the screw in to close the valve the. Back it off pretty far and hopefully that will free it. Then install your mbc but set it so the valve can open up good this will give u better boost control

Yeah i got it to boost i did exactly that ^ now it holds boost very well, BUT now my IP sprang a leak.
I guess its time to upgrade

If the wastegate shaft was/is stuck, then you can pull the metal line and squirt some penetrating oil in there. Boost pressure will force it down the k24 valve stem.
