100% comparing apples to oranges with this..

the K03 is basically spooled off idle, and only makes ~18psi max.. generally not a good performance oriented turbo.

the T3 doesnt spool till ~3000 with stock fueling, but is capable of 30+psi.. generally more used on vehicles where performance is wanted..

what are you trying to accomplish? we will help you decide what turbo is best..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

It's for an 8v gas engine, Tryin to use existing factory stuff. I want 170-180hp, in boost by 2500rpm or earlier without constricting top end power

This thread is kinda like someone going to a Vegan forum and asking how to properly cook tofu because they really want to cook a rare steak.

No they aren't the same and the diesel K03 or T3 will behave differently on a gas engine than on a diesel.  I have used all the 1.6 and 1.9 turbos except the AAZ T2 and yet I probably wouldn't have any useful info for you because I haven't used any of them on 8v gas engines.

do they have the same mounting flange?

i just ask because a k03s is a very nice match for a 20v engine, so i was guessing a k03 non-s would be a great turbo for an 8v

but id also be interested in comparing the k-series as well.

all these parts are off the shelf, cheap and bolt on. so why not?

id just go aftermarket but everything is a t3 flange and id have to use a pretty small t3 i think for what id like to accomplish.

I don't remember if the gasser k03 shares the same flange as the diesel k03.

They both have the triangular flange, can't tell if the bolt holes match on both.

I swear josh has told me about spiking 44psi...

i never said it would make 30psi GOOD, just that it would do it.

we all know that 30psi out of almost any single turbo is most likely inefficient..

no, were not talking the merc/hybrid/laggy turbo he has now/taking off soon.. i was talking about the stock VW t3, spiking 44psi.

this was a LONG time ago that the 44psi spike discussion happened.. like shortly after i joined the board, some 5 years ago.
