Anyone purchased and installed a peloquin on a 020?
« on: May 31, 2012, 08:21:42 pm »
My jetta was useless in the snow at the ski hill this past season not because of my tires but because it was so incredibly difficult not to spin 1 tire at a time.
The snow tires helped a lot but i just hated the fact that i couldn't make the front tires like a possi on a RWD car! :P
The suggested retail price on these make me cringe but has anyone actually done this and could shed some light for me?

Sounds tricky for snowy conditions...

I think the quaife units are a little more reasonably priced but I don't know much about the different setups, peloquin, quaife or wavetrac.

It would be cheaper (but not easier) to find an AWD set up from an audi that bolts up. doesnt a quattro fit most 4 door mk2s?

If this were the case there would be 1000's of awd mkII's on the road in this country. It's an engineering/fabrication nightmare, no easy solution, it'd be much easier to swap the diesel into a 4000 or something.

same website different product. This is what I had in mine. It is a much cheaper and easier solution to try. VW never had anywhere close to the 80% I think the most they did was 20%. At any rate that is what I used in mine and it helped a ton. In the mud with around 40,000 miles it would still spin 2 tires. Brokevw says there is nothing wrong with the kit and he has used them in his own cars. It is easy to install, just about like doing the flange seals. The Peloquin you have to strip the entire case and setup the ring and pinion gears as the peloquin takes the place of the ring gear carrier.

I wouldn't spend the money on a LSD if it was going into an 020. If you really want an LSD, convert to a 02a.

x2..

if your gonna drop the coin on LSD, then just get an O2A..

if you have enough power/torque to warrant a LSD, then you probably aint far from the limits of the 020 trans..

i know that the next upgrade im doing to my car, is an O2A trans swap..

From what broke vw said the wavetrack in theory was the "best" setup, but they had issues with the hardening process. They would shear the machined portion off of the arp bolts so they couldn't be tightend properly. He contacted them and they said they were addressing the issue.

would the 020 transaxle go in an 02a?
Had thought of putting an 80% diff in mine but they're so damn pricey

I've owned a few Quaifes and they work fine.  Jumping on the throttle from a slow roll still had some evil torque steer.  The Peloquin works pretty much the same as the Quaife.  Peloquin also includes the diff bearings and bolts.  The Peloquin also has a much better warranty.

I've also used the 80% shim kit and was able to do 2 wheeled burn outs.  The shim kits do wear out, so be aware of that.

thats not a LSD tho..

thats just a good reason to change out your brass conical washers every year..

if your gonna go with a LSD, then get a LSD, not a mini-slip..
