13" tire choices
« on: February 14, 2006, 12:46:28 pm »
i'll try this here in case any of you have experience with this. (this is for a different car than my 14" wheel post)

i'm looking for a 13" tire with less sidewall than stock.
will be going on 5.5" wide rims.
summer performance tire for track use, but also needs to be street legal.

i've looked into toyo proxes RA1s, they're like $800/set by the time i'd get them here and they're not street-legal.

falken 512s are well-priced, good handling, but they are all-seasons which makes me question the compound compromises since i will never use these in the winter. falken azenis are not available in 13".

i've run dunlops in the past on other cars with good results but i can't find anything performance-oriented in 13".

continental supposedly makes some that would work but i can't find any canadian suppliers in the size i need.

sumitomo HTR 200's would be what i'd go with if i had to decide today. they are dirt cheap, a good tire for the money... but i've heard problems with sidewall rigidity (not enough) and drying up after they've been run hard.

sizes i would consider are:
205/60R13
195/60R13
185/60R13
175/60R13
185/50R13
175/50R13

..and really anything else around there.

any ideas?

probably going to settle and order the sumi 175/50R13s this week unless someone has a better idea. the 20" diameter is nice, so is the 14Ibs/ea weight, they are ideal for a 5.5" width rim. the width isn't so great but i think it will be about right for what i need and right now i can't find any super light 13" rims wider than 5.5".

nope, 14Ibs per tire, just the rubber. the rims i am using around about 9Ibs. so 23Ibs total per rim/tire. going to have them weighed so i know for sure.

going to a 215/50r13 sumi adds 5Ibs per tire from the 175s!!
