Engine AAZ.

I have a thermostatically controlled sandwich plated oil cooler which I have been sitting on for the last year.

I know I have a few options when it comes to installing it. But I was hoping to use the down time the car has over the next week to consider replacing the factory oil cooler with the sandwich plate.

My curiosity is based on the coolant inlet and outlet hoses from the factory oil cooler. What do I do with those hoses when i pull off the factory cooler? Do i mock up a u-joint for the plumbing? Or can I just cap/block both ends off?

Thanks.

either get hoses for that engine WITHOUT accommodations for the oil cooler..

or else CAP the lines. dont loop them. if you loop them, the coolant ALWAYS bypasses the radiator..

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

Did you guys get carburetor fed petrols over there? The metal coolant pipe and hoses might work out to be of some use as they never had coolers on the non GTI petrols here in the UK.

1y was cooler less, but I'd just blank them off (I did).

GEE-BEE was selling silicone ones at one point.

Any mk1 non-turbo has the right bypass hose.

and I may just close them off and hose clamp them shut with a cork or a stopper of somekind.

I want to do this before hit up the leavenworth cruise in mid june.

I think getting a hose fitting and cap combo would be better than a cork.  You should have a hose clamp on it as it develops enough pressure after you turn off the engine to blow out anything that isn't metal in nature.  Think long haul fix not fix a day.

Nope, the 1.6 is marginally too short.

My rabbit has the weirdest bastard coolant pipes I've ever seen. It has the ports for the manifold heater, but they're just plugged, as well as the port for the expansion tank, also plugged. So the pipe, just get a little rubber cap for it and hose-clamp it on.

The mk2 n/a bypass coolant hose should work if you use the mk2 coolant flange. There's enough flex in the hose that an added 6mm in height shouldn't be a problem.
