This seems to fit just perfectly, and looks exactly like mine on my m-tdi.

Tony, shoot us a pic of the actual tensioner spring assembly.. that will tell us if the belt is too loose or not..

Went and got the 1035mm and if fits like OJ Simpsons glove. Much better and not too much tension.
Thanks again.

I've made a couple dipstick tubes for vanagons from steel brake line that bent over the serp bracket and allowed reading the oil lever from the license plate door. Not as much an issue on a Doka but still a nice touch.

Hey Libbey you just reminded me about my dip stick. The AAZ dipstick in still on the block. Now that the motor is leaning 50deg, will the dipstick have to be changed to suit the different oil pan? I put 4 qts in it to prime the engine and it was pulling oil but the stick did not measure any.
It looks like I may have an issue with the length.
Thanks
Tony

I've never used the stock dipstick because in a vanagon, pulling all the stuff out of the rear hatch to check the oil level is extremely inconvenient and so I can't say what all you need to make it work. I've made several dipstick tubes from steel brake line. The most recent dipstick I made was from a low-B string (130) from my 5-string bass. The dipstick should come very close to the bottom of the pan to get a good reading and so you may be able to just lengthen yours.

I see. With a DoKa the engine is more accessible so the stock dip stick position is not an issue. I will try to find a way to make the stick longer. Maybe cutting the tube that presses into the block can work.

Libby,
I got a hold of a dip stick that is 1/4" longer than the bottom of the oil pan. How far from the lowest point should the dip stick drop?
Should I measure the maximum amount of oil in the engine and use that level as the top/full mark?
I believe it takes 4.75qts.
Thanks
Tony

The amount of oil required for the AAZ installed in a vanagon is up for debate. The spec for the AAZ engine does not really apply because you are not using the AAZ oil pan. The 1.6 in a rabbit vs. the 1.6 in a vanagon had different oil quantity specs because of the change in the pan. All that said, I've found that 4.5 quarts is about minimum w/ the 1.9 in a vanagon. I have noticed that if the oil level is at all low then when I am cruising and then punch it, oil pressure will drop while boost rises. Whenever I notice that happening, I add a little oil and the effect goes away. The only mark I use on my custom dipstick is the low mark where that starts happening. As always YMMV.
