dTc branded type k probe and meter, POLARTITY questions
« on: May 03, 2012, 03:15:40 pm »
ok, so I have this type k probe says dTc on the shrink wrap as a registered logo.

the meter is ALSO dtc the t in the middle is larger then the d and c if that makes a difference, on the paperwork it says same thing, tells me which port on the back of the meter is positive/negative but it DOESNT say what color wire is which,

Ive searched online and it says chinese made MIGHT be red+ yellow-  which is opposite of north america. what will happen if I hook up backwards?

update, I bought another type k from them, was wired with clip, was red- yel+ wired up it works, it is kinda laggy though so might reach higher temps short term then it shows

I've tested various probes in a uniform flame and a laggy probe can take several more minutes to register dangerous engine temps...  I'd rather have no gauge than a laggy EGT gauge.

its not like bad, takes like 10 seconds to register temp changes.

I assume that if the digital gauge is working at all, its doing its job correctly right?

ok, so just timed it out, took about 10 seconds for it to register that I put it into the flame and another 10seconds after I removed it for it to stop climbing, I think that on engine tests with exhaust gas flowing over it will be only way to see what kind of changes its reading. gauge works, but this probe might not be best bet
