Brand New Meyle fuel solenoid = junk
« on: May 02, 2012, 09:05:10 am »
After just 500 miles of driving my brand new $25 meyle fuel solenoid cracked at  the seam of the plastic  top and the metal and is dripping diesel... I should have spent the $50 for the genuine vw one. This is not the only meyle junk part I have ended up with, the ball joints/tierod ends and rubber steering boots have all failed in less than a year. Ive had good luck with spending $60 for high quality balljoints and having them last 3 years. Ive had better luck with prothe lol

Yeah, pretty much anything Meyle = Junk these days. Their parts are sourced in China, then put in boxes labeled Meyle Germany. Awesome.
It's getting hard to find any decent replacement parts. Have you looked for wheel bearings lately? The bearings available for Vanagons are complete crap, and we see reports of failure within 6 months of use regularly, same story with balljoints.

When it comes to VW parts; Good used, or pay extra for real German the first time, to avoid doing it again in the immediate future... >:(

Had this exact same thing happen to me.  Bought some "Meyle Germany" tie rod ends for my Audi, and they were both stamped "China".  Sent them right back to AutohausAZ for a refund.

Don't know about Slovenia, but Czech stuff I would trust.  May even beat Bosch India.  I would be interested in your experience .

Ten years ago Meyle stuff was really really good.  I rebuilt 2 MBs with it- all German good as orginal.  Now, they are near the bottom of my list , just above Uro.

Is there any sort of consensus on what "brands" are "good" these days? I've had good luck with FEBI. What else?

The thing is, our cars, as far as the original components weren't meant to last for 30 years and 300K miles like many of us have. The aftermarket components probably aren't either. That just wasn't part of Volkswagen's business plan to still have our cars on the road today.

I just got some Febi MkII strut mounts.  Made in Germany with INA bearings on them also made in Germany.  $11 ea.  I may just buy another set for the next time 'cause I know that ain't gonna happen again.

Not all Febi stuff is good anymore .  Nor is Lemfoerder .
