So, I was feeling a little bored this weekend, and since my GTI was missing the grill, I decided to make a new one.  A few hours of welding and grinding and painting later....  

What do you think?  It's not really strong like a real brush bar would be.  Just bolted to the stock steel bumper, and the sidewings are only electrical conduit.  The whole thing is less than 20 lbs.  But I figure its mostly to intimidate big SUV's and make them think I'm more dangerous to run over than my 52HP belies  :twisted:

That's my 300bhp 20vt mk2 golf engine bay, sorry that it looks messy, its just that im stipping it to rebuild the engine with stronger components to get to the 380bhp mark, smoothing the engine bay, welding on custom arches to fit some nice deep dished polished 9 and 10 inch alloys, and also a full respray while im at it.


Is that ok?

I think that grill guard needs bull horns.  :D

There's this 70's Thunderbird for sale down the street that's been taunting me with it's for sale sign. It's really clean but all I'd want to do with it is add a battering ram and drive it through a house or something. Mad Max Style  :evil:

fair comment, 20vt mk2's have been done to death, every other man's got one.

But when you compare it to that, erm, *interesting* creation above, it puts a few things into perspective.

Fair play we've all had our styling 'faux pas', myself included, but i'd have to be seriously pilled up off my tits to be seen driving in noddy's car above  :shock:

..and many would say the same about your's. he's done something unique with time and not much money. looks like you've opened an issue of PVW and your wallet without much thought. to each his own i suppose.

Not at all mate, ive done my car on a budget, done all the work myself after work and during weekends in my tiny garage, and i also decided on the look myself. I dont know many mk2's with g60 front arches reversed on the rear, 10's on the back and 9's on the front, and other neat touches i've added.

Sorry to have slated that green one so much, its someone's car at the end of the day. I could have worded my original reply more sensitively, but tbh I thought it was quite funny and had a chuckle to myself, also quite a few of us are looking at his car from another forum linked to here, and comments such as 'that thing is gash as ***' is quite frankly, funny  :D

Why put 380 HP in a 2000 lb car is my question.  It just seems to scream lack of common sense, which is the type of car I wouldn't be caught dead driving.  I wouldn't mind, say 100HP with a nice turbodiesel in there instead of my naturally asthmatic diesel.  But if I wanted something with 380 HP, I'd get an old cummins diesel dumptruck from the 60's.  I don't claim my sense of aesthetics is in sync with anyone elses, but it works for me.

I bet it'll peeve you to know that I'm setting it up to run from old fryer oil too...

Damn.  That looks nice.  I didn't even know you could get factory brush guards for them.  All the GTI's I've seen are lowered and turned into racers (and of course, never taken off road).

That's no GTI, there.

That's a Golf Country.

AFAICT, it's the predecessor of the CrossGolf 4Motion (not available here, of course). Smaller than a "cute-ute", still definitely a car, but it's got some off-road capabilities.

I'm considering getting that Golf Country brush guard for my Jetta, though - screw looks, I live in a deer-infested area!

Edit: I see the problem, though. It appears to bolt to the GC skidplate, which rides REALLY low if it were stock height, so I'd have to lift my Jetta using GC suspension to use that brush guard. :(
