98 tdi part out feeler...
« on: April 21, 2012, 06:23:40 am »
my friend has a wrecked in the front tdi. its not horrible but the frame is bent and was decided to be to costly to repair. has a running engine. he will sell me the car for 1000 dollars. all I want is the engineand trans really to do an mtdi setup. I would also probably ditch the bottom mount turbo like I've heard of people doing and put a k14 in cuz I'm no speed demon. What I want to get a feel for is how much of my 1000 I could recover by selling the turbo(what's it worth?),parting it out and scraping the rest?

if not a speed demon the stock turbo will work just fine... i want bigger on mine... hate the 10-15psi it runs at speed... aka 65-70mph..

Depending on what's left in the car and how good it is, you might very well end up making money (depending on how much space you have available to sit on stuff until it sells). If the stock turbo is a vnt15, then it's worth around 225-ish.
Ebay is your friend.

Regardless, even 1000 for a just running tdi + tranny seems to me to be a good deal.
