http://eugene.craigslist.org/pts/2956884075.html thinking about making an offer on this, but not much to go on there. I need some parts from a diesel, including timing covers and stuff, and a spare IP wouldnt hurt, shoot a spare motor wouldnt hurt, spare tranny wouldnt hurt.
whatcha guys think on the details alone? what all can I use from the 1.5 diesel? what all is it really worth?

Billybobf I think this was up for sale about two months ago as well. I would ask for the transmission code stamped underneath on the bell housing. It may not be something you really want. 3 speed + econ for the fourth. Ask him for it and some pictures. If it is a white one it may very well be the same I saw back when.

If its really a 79 original its not a 3+e trans for sure and if it is a 5 speed its one of the very first most likely the high revving 4th and if you want one or two or three of those i have a pile stop by! I may even have one with 70 miles on it! I haven't found a use for them yet!

he didnt respond to my email, not going to worry about it, mostly I want a core IP to build, as well as a bunch of misc hardware for my project engine.
I need all the front end hardware and covers (all the pully bolts and such, as well as other similar stuff)
I would like a new rear main seal housing (mine just has pulled threads so not a big deal, I can fix it)
I would love to get some other factory hardware pieces, lots of nuts and bolts I would love to have, I doubt it would have it, but I would like a valve cover baffle.
all things that someone probably has sitting in a box in their garage

All of the stuff you mention, I believe, can be obtained from a gas engine. I prefer new hardware, the hardware store here has everything I need. Just don't get the wrong length of crank pulley bolts or they stick out and damage the seal. I might have the rear seal carrier though.

Only thing I cannot get is a timing cover BUT... I wouldnt want a 79 timing cover anyways I dont think? is there a difference in timing covers from an mk1 to an mk2 or an audi?

Yep.
Keep in mind that if actually a 79 like the guy says, it'll be a 1.5.
What're you wanting as far as an IP to build (and what exactly do you mean by 'build'...)? Not to rag on the guy or his motor, but a questionable n/a pump from a 1.5 isn't something I'd get too excited about. If you're wanting a performance pump at the end, you're gonna want a turbo pump to start with.
