Sudden and shortlived knocking
« on: April 12, 2012, 12:02:32 am »
Two days ago, i was pulling out of a parkinglot in the 85 and it all of a sudden started running rough nd knocking. At first i thought i threw a rod. I let it come down to idle and the noise went away. Been drivng normally ever since.

Any ideas on what it may have been? Injector stuck?
1985 jetta TD. It was free, and it shows. Down and dirty engine refresh made it run fairly well.... No leaks, except water into the cabin!

My vote goes that an injector was stuck open, it happened to me twice and both times I was sure a rod was gonna fly through the block.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Two votes for sticky injector.  Throw some ATF at it and see what happens.

Will do.
Perhaps I'll run a can of diesel-purge as well.

FWIW the injector bodies are the originals, rebuilt by DFIS with new GTD nozzles.
