Hello guys! I have a 93 1.9TD golf, 410,000kms on it or so. Has a new ACT clutch, and pressure plate. Water pump, alternator, fuel filter, new cone filter, and new panel filter. 1.6td boost pin, boost controller set at 16lbs,fuel turned up slightly, stright through exhaust with a dual tip fart can with a not so pretty bent pipe over the axle..that's some info about the car..here's my problem..
When I get pass 3k It feels like someone pulls on the car, not letting it speed up. Then they let go and grab it again slowing it down.
Now my question is, what would be causeing this? I have thought of a couple things, but need some opinions..
A) poor fuel injectors
B) weak fuel pump
C) exhaust is too restrictive
D) poor engine compression.
Any other ideas would help?
Also like to note that I drove my car 270kms and burned about 24.5L of fuel..mostly intown. To me, that sounds horriable..
Thanks guys!!

Do you have a compression tester? If you do or can get one, do it and get that out of the way. Then you'll know if it's something dumb or if you are looking @ a real problem. Sounds like a filter to me, but hard to say from here

Is your problem surging at all speeds over 3000 RPM?
does it happen in every gear?
Hot, cold, or both?
Bubbles in fuel return?
Fresh fuel filter?
How does the fuel look/smell?
Poor throttle control usually comes back to injection pump wear.

it mostly happens when warm, and yes all over speeds, it happens in every gear. im not sure about air bubbles, but i can bleed the fuel lines tomorrow. the fuel filter is brand new from the dealer..not even 10k. the fuel smells like fuel?

Sounds to me like you can replace the return line with some cheap clear tube, rev to 3500, and just watch the line for bubbles to rule out air intrusion.
If the fuel smells like fuel, that is probably fine.

I'd also like to add that one of the bolts on the LDA, I can't tighten down because it got cross threaded, so only 3 of them actualy go tight..would that be a problem?

you could try a bit of gasket glue around the edge and fill the screw hole as well.... found that the wire leading to the shut down solinoid was reallly frayed... 2 wires left holding out of a dozen....im hoping that was my problem...not enough power to hold it fully open at times....but those things seem to be on or off and thats it...lol

Check for boost leaks too, the over-pressure valve on the intake manifold is a good place to find one that I think many people overlook. It seems like it's not getting enough fuel though to power the engine under full throttle, like if the fuel filter or fuel pickup in the tank is clogged.

Drill and tap that lda cover or just tap it back to M6-1.0 OR use a smaller bolt with a nut as IIRC they go straight through.

also I would make sure it is getting plenty of fuel. Almost sounds like the pump is running out of stuff to pressurize. Could be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter.

will...i blew my head gasket...soo thats first...i was only boosting 16psi..3psi over stock..but anyway, i might swap in another fuel filter (oem one that was in it before, thought that was a problem in the past but wasnt) also i msged giles to see what they say and he said
"I had the same problem with my car and it was fuel supply, either the one way valve in the system, block fuel filter, pinched/kinked line or fuel tank cap not vented."
wheres the one way valve? how can i check that? and weres the vent for the fuel tank?

im thinking about doing this..sounds the easyest..
found that the wire leading to the shut down solinoid was reallly frayed... 2 wires left holding out of a dozen....im hoping that was my problem...not enough power to hold it fully open at times....but those things seem to be on or off and thats it
ill check that aswell, cause iv bent it back and forth a couple times..
like you guys said, its like it not getting the fuel it needs.. so im gonna check over the fuel lines and such... but in order to test this, i need to get my headgasket and timming belt done before testing different things..
thanks guys!
