Finally pulled my engine last night. the turbo is leaking oil so I guess I might as well rebuild it while its out. looking at a kit for like 50 on ebay not proethe. is it pretty self explanitory? do I need any special tools?
Super simple...
You may need snap ring pliers and a 12-pt socket, but nothing special. If you choose not to have the rotating assembly balanced, then make sure to mark the relationship between turbine and compressor wheels and reassemble in the very same orientation.
Oh yea - penetrating oil and a propane torch may come in handy for some of the fasteners.

where would i have something like that done?
gpop does it
he will sell you a rebuild kit
much more money
i think its about $200 for him to rebuild the center and balance it.
he makes a mark in each half, you just align them in the same direction.
you have to heat the aluminum compressor wheel to get it off the shaft.
the nut may be left hand.

The older turbos generally don't have to be balanced as long as you mark the turbine to compressor orientation. Newer small turbos such as the vnts need to be VSR balanced when rebuilding.
