I have a leak from my water pump. It works fine, however it is leaking pretty bad. I have tried to tighten the bolts with little success. Short of replacing the unit, would it work to loosen the bolts and use some sealant and retighten them? How are these pumps to replace? Thanks in advance, Chris
Is it the pump or the pump to housing seal that is leaking ?
If it's the pump, then replace it.
If it's the housing to pump seal, then haul the pump off and replace the seal.
checkout my post on sealer in the tech tips / faq section,,,,use a verrrythin thin coating,,,if you have something like a corroded surface,,let it dry like 10minutes first,,good luck

Sorry about the wrong location. It was late and I was tired. I believe it is leaking from the housing seal on the bottom where the halves come together. I tried tightening the bolts, not overly, but no luck. Is it a job to pull that cover off? Are the bolts fairly accessable? They parts store stated that there is an 8 or 9 bolt option. Thanks again, Chris
Take the whole housing out of the car.it just bolts to the block. You'll be there forever trying to get the pump out with the housing in the car. You'll need a newhousing the block o-ring.

As far as replacement goes it is fairly straightforward. Just remove as Wyldman said. Depending on what alternator bracket your car has and whether or not it has A/C you might have trouble getting at the top two bolts that hold the pump on.
