hey im just using ol' rotella 15-40 for break in on my tdi,,should i be using thinner oil,,or is this ok???i think ina few thou. ill switch to a synthetic,,whats a good weight for that???
sure start with the rotella after the first change do the delvac 1 same stuff the tdi's use ..it awesome...saved my engine for the 3 days i had a self inflicted low pressure problem..ha..its expensive though $25 a gallon..so ya need two gallons to start with as the engine takes a gallon and aquart ..then next change you just need another gallon etc..get it?...i the the delvac 1 is 5-40..i could check in the garage..

Rotella 15W40 is good stuff. Rotella makes a full-synthetic in a 5W40 (in the blue jug/bottle, about $14/gal & $4/qt at walmart) I use the syn in the winter in my 468k + mile occasionally abused Quantum TD and the 15W40 the rest of the year (5W40 is too thin for my old motor in the summer) I've used Rotella 15W40 in big trucks with up 2 million miles w/o an oil related problem. Again good stuff!

cool thanks for the info, guys i was a little worried that this being a "newer " engine that the 15-40 rotella would be a lilthick for break in,,,,deo i got that delvac from hopewell auto parts,,,remember its in "detroit diesel" bottles?
