I was thinking it would be good place to mount a BOV but if it gets in the way then I guess that is that. Ive heard that the VNT could overboost

A BOV goes in the intake piping to directly limit intake manifold pressure, a wastegate is for redirecting the exhaust gasses around the turbine wheel to limit boost that the turbo can make.
The way a vnt kills motors isn't from overboosting (excessive intake manifold pressure), but rather by restricting the exhaust flow due to improperly setup or malfunctioning vanes, causing excessive exhaust manifold pressure.

BOV on the exhaust? WTF are you talking about dude? BOVs are for intake pressure when the throttle plates close and it builds too much pressure..

we dont have throttle plates, or BOVs.. scratch that idea.

and no, whoever told you that VNTs overboost, no, that doesnt happen. i never had more than 25psi with the vanes open. if the vanes are stuck closed, or partially closed, then yea, these VNTs make enough boost to blow the head clear off the block..

cutting the EGR port CLEAR OFF is the best way to do things..

gasser manifolds almost fit with those VNTs. you gotta cut a mounting boss off the intake on #3 intake runner, and you gotta grind the top edge off the EGR port, or cut it clear off like i did, and weld it closed..

but VNTs dont fit easily on a mk2 car like yours.. you NEED special engine mounts to make everything clear like it needs to.

you dont just bolt in a diesel, then bolt up a VNT, and hook everything up with stock parts. the VNT is a fairly in-depth install, in terms of work required..

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

sorry, yes I meant a fail safe waste gate

Im just barely accepting the idea of a turbo right now as I dont know enough about them. its funny I have years of machine shop working on interior of motors, but never dealing with the "making it run right"

and I hear stories about bad things happening. lol

and as far as modifying to run in the mk2 nothing like that bothers me, I have years of building stuff, doing custom fab, custom motor swaps. I currently drive around custom sandrails 40+ hours a week, and I am responsible for keeping that buggy in good shape.

I would be happy making my own intake manifold, doesnt bother me, would be fine welding up all my own motor mounts and exhuast tubing
