Hey Guys, question here--
is a ruptured fuel shut off solenoid indicative of a more serious problem inside the IP, or is it simply an isolated failure of the part?I had replaced some seals on a pump that had been sitting for a while, put it back in and all, started fine, was idling when there was a loud pop and a small cloud of smoke. I thought something had snapped inside the pump. Tore it apart, (no damage that I can see) and was pleasantly surprised to find only the fuel solenoid had given up the ghost.
As you can see from the pics, it looks as though the plunger inside was less than happy, and perhaps seized, causing the plastic to fail?
I have ordered a new solenoid, but I just wanted to make sure that's the only thing wrong with the pump before I put it back in.
