Exhaust manifold?

Right now I have the 4 into 1 toilet bowl exhaust that came stock on my 1984 1.6N/A.  I also have a 2" eurosport exhaust out the rear.  Will I really feel the difference with a 4 into 2 exhaust manifold compared with the stock toilet bowl exhaust?  Is the difference in acceleration, midrange, or top-end? I also have seen the Corrado exhaust manifold that is 4 into 2 design, are the pipes larger than the early 8v 4 into 2 design and will it work?  What will make the Corrado exhaust manifold work with the 1.6N/A on a 1984 MK1 rabbit?  Are there any clearance issues with the Corrado exhaust manifold and Corrado downpipe?

mk1 exhaust manifolds position the exhaust differently then mk2+ aka mk2 shifer will hit in a mk1... tt makes a goofy shift lever to resolve that issue.. BUT still the own pip eis all wrong and has to be custom built..

the mk2 MANIFOLD will work (twin tube downpipe, not toilet bowl)

but the mk2 downpipe WILL NOT WORK on a mk1. it will hit the rack n pinion BAD.

you CAN buy a twin tube downpipe for a mk1 tho, from techtonics tuning, for alot of money.

then you use the mk2 manifold, the TT downpipe, and then it all works.. but its a fair amount of money, for not much gain..

That's good to know!  So my best best would be to find a MK1 dual outlet manifold with dual outlet downpipe.  I want to go turbo but the cost of finding all associated parts and the modifications seem like a lot and the condition of the turbos are really unknown unless you get it rebuilt which adds to the cost.  I am just looking for a little more pep and was hoping the dual downpipe would achieve this.

Did the Golf mk1 GTI gasser engine not come with a dual outlet cast exhaust manifold with 6 bolt flange in the USA?
It would be the easiest to get an isolated 1-4 / 2-3 twin downpipe set up if obtainable.

The later mk2 6 bolt flange cast manifold is offset and gets close to the shifter rods on a mk1 platform. However the mk4 8v engines have a very similar cast manifold to the mk2, but the downpipe flange is moved back to a more central position and clears the shift rods better. You would still need to fab a downpipe but it is a better starting point than a mk2 manifold.

Do you have the downpipe from the toilet bowl opened up??  I've run both the dual outlet and a toilet bowl with 2" + pipe starting right at the bowl..  Couldn't feel an ounce of difference between them..  However compared to stock it felt peppier, and I had less downshifting for hills..  Noticed the temp running a tick cooler on long hard pulls too..

I don't have the downpipe from the toilet bowl opened up.  When you opened yours did you have the exhaust manifold off of the car?  Since this is my daily driver, the only way I can do this is to drive my rabbit to an exhaust shop and have them remove the clamps and open up the flange and fab some piping from the manifold to the aftermarket piping.  I really don't know if an exhaust shop would tackle something like this and don't know how much the cost may be???

The manifold can stay put..  It's just the downpipe that has to come off..  The clamps can be removed with simple old exhaust clamps, but you need something to cut the flange out to fit the bigger pipe, and means to weld the bigger pipe to the flange...
