Best Prices on Rebuild Parts

I have to start collecting parts to rebuild this 1.6.

I need rings, Bearings, all seals and such. I'll also need cam followers, valve seals along with all related gaskets and seals.

If anyone knows of some closeout specials or have some parts for sale, please let me know.

I'll probably go with the gap-less 2nd ring, so all I would need is the bottom 2. 1.6 STD.

AutohausAZ has good prices on great name-brand parts.  They would be a great place to buy gaskets, seals and lifters from. 

As for the bearings and head gasket, to go the Dub Doctor; he sells the updated main bearing sets with non shouldered numnber 3 main for the insert type endplay shims, as well as the full circle bearing for the number 4 main so the number 3 rod doesn't have any chance of oil starving.  He can also get OG elring adn febi HG's in all notches.

If you want a complete gapless 2nd ring set, go to Total Seal.  Not particularly cheap but definitely worh getting.  Search through their catalog and you should find a PN for the complete gapless 2nd ring set in the VW section.

Now, a word of warning that you'll get from most everyone here; avoid Prothe and his myriad of online parts stores suchas hansdieselparts.net, emiata.net, anything under Rothenbacher Engineering.  The parts sold under those banners are not brand name (doesn't even list names of his suppliers and parts brands), and are not of good quality.  THE ONLY THING acceptable for sale on his webside are the diesel pistons, and even those need replacenemt rings and suggested replacing of the thinner piston pins as well.

Thanks for the info, I will follow up with those people and stay away from the others.

I'll look around and see what they got.

Should I repack the int shaft bearing(s) or just replace them? Mine was good from what I can tell but will replace it if needed.

Thanks for the link; I'm building a 1.9 AAZ so that will actually help me a bit as well.

As long as your I.S. bearings aren't impregnated with debris, excessively wiped on one surface point, and spin an oiled I.S. without rattling or too much resistance.  Think of like testing a piston pin bushing, but except it's a shaft; not too loose, just a little bit of resistance when oiled.

Need any other suggestions, holla back.  Oh, and don't forget to check out your local Carquest if one is near you; almost ALWAYS next-day shipping if not in stock, and has a big selection of gaskets, bearings, and seals, msot of them the OEM suppliers!

P.S.  Seriously, go to the Dub Doctor for the HG and mains.  Just sayin'.
