Finally some pics of my MK2 Golf GTD.
« on: March 11, 2012, 01:31:19 pm »
Here's some pics of my Golf, i've had it 6 years but last year it was time for a major overhaul or it was scrap time.

I started stripping it last april and took months, one new bit led to another bit being replaced.
Still loads to do but Handles really well after I replaced every bush with polys under the car.
Also added a late GTI rear beam, 256mm discs up front. Loads and loads of other stuff upgraded. Last week my turbo started making a really bad whistle so decided it was engine out time, I'm now having fun cleaning 21years of dirt off engine
Will post more details when I get some more time.

Hi thanks for the comments R.O.R
I used the car for years and it was superb never missed a beat.
I thought it was a really solid car but to my horror it turned out it was in a right mess under all the plastic trim. Also on the underside hidden under the stone chip there was loads of rust ( in all the usual Golf places ).
I'd already purchased loads of upgrades so decided to keep dealing with the rust. A lot of people who don't have the VW bug told me to scrap it! There's only 150 GTD's left in the UK so really wanted to save the car.  By the end i'd stripped the car to the shell with just the engine left in.

The wheels came up on ebay just before I finished my car, I'd run out of money but fell in love with them and got bidding lol. I had to put them on 15mm spacers as the offset was crazy (et47)
I love them as there a bit different to others I see around. I think the rims could be polished right up to a mirror finish but would take a lot of work to remove the lacquer. will leave it for now as the list left to complete on the car is still massive.

Hi yeah its Pasadena blue.
I didn't know how rare this car was for several years, Its a run out edition they made at the end of the production of the MK2. Came with rev counter and power steering which I believe quite a few didn't have. I've seen a couple in this colour but only GTI's.
I'm loving the comments makes it worth all the hours bloody sweat and sanding to clean it up.
I'm currently up to my elbows in oil and degreaser cleaning the engine block. I finally found metal under years of oil and dirt. I Plan to paint all the accessory parts over the weekend. will post some pics of engine bay once its done. ;D

my engine bay is a complete mess right now.. un-functional intercooler (witch i absolutely despise!), no rad fan, a hole in my hood, and a hood stack exhaust, and other things... i cant wait to tidy my engine room back up!
