Feeler.. new engine for my Golf
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:21:37 pm »
Alright, so I swapped a 85 TD engine into a 92 Golf. Conversion is complete and it's fun to drive.. but wouldn't mind a little newer engine.

I'm thinking 1.9 TD, can probably get for ~$600 w/ everything needed or else going with a 1Z/AHU TDi which I would attempt the m-TDI, which I can get for $1000 if I pull it myself.

What do you guys think on those prices.. and what are your opinions?

Being in Canada , you can probably get even better deals than those !
Its sitting on every corner up there.

On a 92 - with CE2 wiring
I'd go full blown E-TDI ..... not M-TDI.
Buy a whole car and get tranny, ecu, etc... etc ....
swap it all

Hell just buy a Mk3 TDI Jetta and drive it man.
They are DeeeLuxx

I like the mk2 style.. I had a mint mk3 golf 1.9td but sold it, and Golf's are more my style.

Also, just got a very nice 2002 TDi Jetta (wifes) for $5000 with only 172k kms.

I fully agree :) Mk2 is so much nicer for swaps then mk1.. lotta the stuff for mk2-mk4 is the same..

Sucks they never made a mk3 golf TDI. However I prefer Jetta's so it doesnt affect me any lol.

8V , a guy on our NCdubs website just did a swap similar to yours.
Mk1 Truck with everything except the hyd clutch from 98 Jet donor.
He's doing it the "hard way" - cluster and all.
Getting limp-mode at 80 mph tho.

Sounds like a heckuva deal on that 02 Steevz.
Doubt i'll ever move up past 1Z/AHU
A water pump on my TBelt makes me too nervous.
