mk1 cable fits fine in a mk2, in that recessed spot right below the turn signal stock..

92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

I wouldn't go looking for the specific cable per se.  I have stiff inner cable that has a plastic outside around it that I bought from the autoparts place.  For like 7.50.  Kind of a universal thing.  It does have a swedged on or glued on plastic pull knob but bolts on through any stiff plate or plastic like the dash.  I use it connected to my throttle lever for a high idle/Cruise control.  It sets the throttle to what ever position I have the throttle at.

I think you could fabricate the other end up easy enought and maybe even clip it in place using a couple of bushings and a washer.
